Tourist Attractions

Kandariya Mahadev Temple

This is the largest temple in Khajuraho which was constructed during the period of 1025- 1050 AD. If you are visiting here, this place should be definitely visited by you. It is completely dedicated to Lord Shiva and consists of a sandstone structure. You can view the linga in center of Garbha Griha. Entire temple is beautifully ornamented with around 800 images and each of them has an average height of 3 feet. Around its northern and southern directions, you can also find the sculptures of women. Height of the temple is around100 ft which is definitely worth a watch.

Vaman Temple

As the name suggests, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vaman. This temple basically belongs to the temples in eastern group. Lord Vaman is considered as dwarf Lord. In the northern direction of Khajuraho village, you can find this temple situated surrounded on all sides by lush green fields. Architecture of Vaman Temple comprises of a chamber and a ‘skikhara’, a ‘mandapa’ and the atrium. Apart from this, it also consists of a nice porch and the tangential transepts.

Chitragupta Temple

Constructed in form of an ancient throne, this temple is dedicated to Lord Surya. Facing of this temple is therefore towards the eastern side facing sun. Standing majestically since 11th century, this temple has an amazing 5 feet statue of Lord Surya in a standing position. The entire image displays the scene of a Lord driving the chariot with seven horses.

Jagdamba Temple

Jagdamba Temple is another worth visiting temple of Khajuraho. You can find various several intensely carved figures on the walls all around. There is a Garbha Griha over here where you can view the image of goddess of entire universe.

If you want to visit this holy city and get a splendid view of marvelous architecture and sculpture, this city is easily reachable through roads or railways. You can take a rental car from Agra to Khajuraho.
